A new circular from CBSE must be troubling many of fellow school principals ( I still consider myself a fellow though not a principal anymore ) where CBSE has asked to put e-sign on LOC and other documents to be sent to CBSE, time to time from schools. So here is everything you need to know about Aadhar based e-sign. In my opinion, you need not to spend a paisa on it as the facility is completely free for signer. So do not rush to buy token based DSC as the same is not required.

What is Aadhar eSign?

Aadhaar eSign is a government prescribed method of digitally signing a document and has legal and evidentiary value equivalent to that of wet signatures. Introduced in 2015, Aadhaar eSign is a legally compliant mode of electronic signature in India that allows you to sign a digital document provided you have:

An Aadhar Number issued to you

Mobile number OR email linked to your Aadhar Number

The Process of e-signing a document-

The agency requiring e-signature (CBSE in this case) provides signing link on the document/portal/application where it wants a signer to sign digitally.

You click the link and the document to be signed is presented to you. Check it and then you will be asked for a consent to proceed with Aadhar eSign.

You will be redirected to e-sign service provider page (like NSDL) from which the agency (CBSE) has availed the service. (None of our business)

You will enter your aadhar number and proceed to authentication. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhar linked mobile number/email. With the OTP you will authenticate the request. You may choose TOTP option as well if you have mAadhar App installed in your mobile. ( mAadhar is not mandatory. It is just another facility for authentication.)

Upon successful authentication, your e-signature is affixed on the document digitally. You nailed it..

Probably the agency (CBSE in this case) will be sending you also the e-signed document on your mail id or on portal itself.

Please note that information provided here is based on standard Aadhar e-sign procedure and has not been verified from CBSE. Though I am in process of verifying it from CBSE. Once done, will post here the same.
